A Tavola Non Si Invecchio 5 ft. X 12 ft. Valente Branch, Cambridge Public Library, [Canvas adhered to sheetrock]
"A Tavola Non Si Invecchio" (At the table no one grows old) is a mural originally designed and painted on canvas for a store in Harvard Square, Cambridge called Salt and Olive. When the store closed, the artist removed the mural and the owner donated it to the Cambridge Public Library. It was reinstalled in the Valente Branch. The mural depicts an imaginary table with Cambridge folks, both famous and regular, enjoying a feast. In the background are various Harvard Square landmarks, such as the Brattle Theater, Curious George Bookstore, the Harvard Bookstore, the Grolier Poetry Bookstore, the Hong Kong Restaurant, and the Cafe Pamplona, many of which have closed in recent years. There are also historical figures including Harriet Jacobs, Joyce Chen, Julia Child, Longfellow, Josefina Yanguas (found of Cafe Pamplona) and Henry Louis Gates.
The artist Liane Noddin assisted me in painting the mural.
Topsfield Reverie 5 ft. X 30 ft. Children's Room, Topsfield Public Library [Acrylic paint on sheetrock]
"Topsfield Reverie" was commissioned for a wall in the new wing of the Topsfield Public Library. It depicts children reading in various locations in the town landscape, including the Topsfield Fair (oldest county fair in the country), various locations on the Ipswich River, a beloved sledding hill, and a beach at a local lake. Many of the books the kids are reading, make references to Topsfield. An example is a girl reading Charlotte's Web, which includes scenes from a county fair similar to Topsfield's fair. In the mural, ants are carrying various pages of the book on which you can read about the fair in "Charlotte's Web".
Ants carry bits of pages from the beloved book "Charlotte's Web".
The town of Topsfield has its own dragon's lair, which is the Rockery Trail in the Ipswich Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Story Garden Mural 5' X 30' (on multiple walls) Children's Room, Billerica Public Library, Billerica, Massa [2001 Acrylic on wall ]
The theme of a magical garden where stories come alive is introduced by the primary image of a young child reading in bed, where the quilt/blanket comes alive with plants, flowers and butterflies. The mural depicts children reading in this imaginary garden world, where stories with garden themes, such as "Alice in Wonderland", "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Sleeping Beauty", and "Winnie the Pooh", inhabit the background.
